One could say there are basically two types of single Thai women: those who would make a good wife for a western man, and those who would not. This article focuses on the latter - women to stay away from.
While most men seem to be concerned about a woman's looks and sexuality, those traits are probably more important in a short-term girlfriend than in a long-term life-partner. It goes without saying that a man from a western country who wants to live in Thailand with a Thai wife will need a partner who speaks at least some English - preferably quite a bit of English.
Unless you are fluent in Thai, you'll need someone to translate for you when dealing with people in your new environment. You'll need help with transportation, immigration, getting a haircut, shopping for food and clothing, etc. You'll also need help in learning the local language and customs. Having a Thai wife or girlfriend who speaks both Thai and English will make your life a lot easier than it would be without her.
There is a group of women who are hunting you. They are desperately poor and they are of the belief that an English-speaking husband is the answer to all of their financial problems. Initially, these women are sweet and demure, but once they get their hooks into you, it becomes "all about the money"!
In the overwhelming majority of cases, these women will never care about you as a person or as a mate. They will constantly exhibit selfish and childish behavior, sulking, crying, complaining, and yelling whenever they don't get their way. They are, as a group, incapable of seeing you as anything more than a meal ticket. Their most outstanding trait is their laziness.
One very common characteristic of the women in this group is that they do not speak English. They employ local English-speaking women to create a profile for them on dating sites that are popular with foreign men who are seeking Asian mates. Once they have their profile online, their translators go about the business of contacting unsuspecting "targets". The English-speaking Thai woman then sits with their non-English-speaking client, side-by-side, while the two of them chat with their prey in real time. The translators also write emails for their client, hoping to lure one to visit them in Thailand.
One woman in the northeast provinces who routinely does translation work for female predators in her village, reported recently that one of her clients, impatient for a pay-day, abandoned the internet "hunt-and-grab" technique because she found it to be much to slow - preferring instead to go to a tourist town and become a prostitute.
In one village, we contacted the local translator and offered to teach English to the local women who were looking for a rich, foreign husband. Seventeen women were offered free English classes that would teach them how to communicate with the foreign men they were seeking. Not one accepted. They all said that learning English was too much trouble. If any of these women actually succeed in getting a western man to come to meet them in Thailand, there is a very slim chance that the man would actually choose to partner with them long-term. A guy who initially agrees to such an arrangement will most likely realize within a short period of time that a childish, non-English-speaking woman is, for the most part, useless as a mate, even if she is cute and sexy.
Much of what you've heard about Asian women being dedicated, caring wives is true, but still, as the saying goes, not all that glitters is gold. You'd be well-advised to pass up any (and every) potential Thai mate who does not speak English well.
